People ask me why I drink blackstrap molasses each day.
Well, it’s simple really.
I was working so hard, drinking lots of coffee, stressing out, eating unhealthy (eating food from deliveries all the time) sleeping late and I WAS STARTING TO GET GRAY HAIR.
Yup, that’s basically it. I didn’t want my black/brown hair to disappear. I need it to be black until at least I am around my 70’s.
I pride myself for looking young!
So, I decided that I needed to change something in my life.
I didn’t want to dye my hair, I didn’t want to pull them out. I figured there probably was a natural way to cure this problem.
I did a little research (thanks Google, as always) and heard about blackstrap.
I didn’t read anything else. I had no time!
I looked around, found an old lady selling it and bought a bottle of organic blackstrap molasses.
Her hair was all black, she’s strong as an ox and still moves around, probably like she was around 40.
She asked me:
“Why would a young kid like you want this? How did you find out about it? Are you looking for extra energy for…y’know?”
Well, I didn’t really know or read about what other benefits it had. I just wanted my black hair back.
She just told me:
You know why I look like this? It’s because I’ve been taking this for 20 years. Daily, with apple cider, vinegar and honey as my preferred combination. You know why doctors don’t prescribe this even if a lot of people vouch for it? It’s because they will lose sales for their drugs. Don’t believe me? Take a guess, at my age.”
In order to not offend her, I said 50…and she laughed. She said she was 74.
Before parting ways, she just gave me one tip, don’t drink it solo. As in, don’t try and “eat” a tablespoon in one gulp.
I went home and started to test it with my own coffee concoctions and tea brews.
It was a little different since I never really add sweeteners to my drinks but it wasn’t horrible.
That was exactly 45 days ago.
What has been my results the past month and a half?
As a control, I’ve been eating the same, working the same hours and stressed out even more.
I noticed that I have more energy. I easily get sleepy around 1PM but I’m awake and alert straight which is a BIG help to my productivity.
I noticed that I haven’t gotten sick, even a runny nose or whatever that’s typical in the summer time here in the Philippines. I guess an immune system boost?
I noticed that my hair is a little darker. The gray hair are still there but there’s a little change. Reading online now, people say that it’s a long term thing. I’m in no rush.
Side effects so far? WARNING, this is GROSS – Do not read this paragraph if you are eating Well, bowels are stickier if you don’t drink that much water. A half gallon of water seems like my minimum to make my bowel texture return to normal. I try to drink 1 gal of water a day and that seems like the best amount for me.
How about my trip for the holyweek? I brought it with me. I didn’t even miss a day.
I drank it only in the morning. 7am everyday for the past 45 days.
Some variables that I’ll be testing the next 2 months:
- Other drink recipes
- Varying time of consumption
- Varying the quantity
- Skipping a day in the week

PS. Oh, for those that are curious, what she said about NOT taking 1 tablespoon straight, I tested that, too. I almost puked since it was so strong BUT I got through. I just thought about drinking a glass (not a shot) of Bacardi 101 straight.
